The news was announced by Payne himself through his Twitter account. His new role is Junior Level Designer for the authors of Darksiders 3, Remnant: From the Ashes, and Chronos: Before the Ashes.

It’s time for me to update this! Today is my last day in Halo Infinite. Excited for the future.

In addition, Payne accompanied his farewell tweet with another with an image of the Master Chief in which he read “I’ll see you later this year, Boss”, referring to the launch of the game on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this year. The post was later removed.
