Incoming Lenovo IdeaPad 720S, high-end Kaby Lake ultrabook

Although not yet announced, the Lenovo IdeaPad 720S has already appeared on the sites of some American retailers, including Best Buy and Newegg.

Lenovo IdeaPad 720S

This is a traditional formbook – not convertible, not 2-in-1 – ultrabook that follows a bit of the high-end market trend to propose a display with very thin frames, thus reducing overall bulk.

In other words, the device has a 14-inch display but has a footprint of 13. A very interesting rival of Dell XPS 13, or – why not – of the brand-new Surface Laptop.

Among the technical features emerging is the 7th generation Intel Core processors ( Kaby Lake ), specifically i5-7200U and i7-7500U, with active dissipation, DDR4 8 or 16 GB RAM, 256 or 512 GB SSD, in both PCI- And SMEs. There is also a discrete GPU, but it is a previous generation GTX 940M (Maxwell architecture). The battery is 56 Wh.

The display has IPS technology and FHD 1080p resolution; It is not touch screen. Despite the ultra-thin frames, a webcam with HD resolution of 720p is located on the upper edge.

Other remarkable features of the chassis, of course, all in metal, are the fingerprint scanner just below the keyboard (naturally backlit) and JBL branded speakers. The dimensions are quite small: 320 x 224 15.2 mm, weight 1.6 Kg.

The available ports include:

  • An SD card reader
  • Two USB 3.0 Type-A
  • A USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3 and an HDMI
  • The traditional 3.5 mm jack for audio is also missing
  • Connectivity sees WiFi Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1

According to the information of the two retailers, Lenovo IdeaPad 720S (codename 14IKB) prices start at $ 949 for i5 / 8GB / 256GB, up to $ 1329 for that i7 / 16GB / 512GB. In all cases, the edition of Windows 10 is the Home.

Availability was indicated by the end of June 2017 in the USA but we have no information about Europe.
