Sony’s new idea is to reward us with loyalty points for playing on PS4 and PS5 so that we can then spend them in the PS Store.
Sony has officially confirmed the release date of PlayStation Stars, the new reward system with which it intends to give us money for playing. As it happened with the new PS Plus, the service will reach the whole world in a scaled way and will do so in the following way:
- September 29 – PlayStation Stars launches in Asia
- October 5 – PlayStation Stars launches in North and South America
- October 13 – PlayStation Stars launches in Australia and Europe
How do PlayStation Stars work?
Access to the program will be through the PlayStation App, but Sony has confirmed that in the future it will have its own section on our consoles. Joining PlayStation Stars will be completely free and will not require a PS Plus subscription. Of course, if it is, we will have additional benefits, such as the option of earning loyalty points with each purchase in the store, in the manner of gold points from the Nintendo eShop.
Continuing with the comparisons, the service will work in a similar way to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S Microsoft Rewards. In other words, there will be challenges of all kinds, if we complete them we will earn “loyalty points” and these can be exchanged for funds for our digital wallet. The more points, the more money to make purchases in the PlayStation Store on PS4 and PS5.
There will be challenges as easy as “Monthly Check-In”, which will give us points once a month for playing anything, but there will also be much more difficult ones (although with a large reward). Examples given by Sony include “winning tournaments, getting specific trophies, or being the first player in your area to go platinum on a blockbuster.”
